Recalcitrant Daze - 21 Months In

Well my monthly post was due up yesterday and I did write one, it was a somewhat clichéd end of year review thing and ran to more than three pages on Word. However it bored me so I scrapped it for something new. Version II may not end up better but it will definitely be shorter.

Recent Clear Out:

In the last couple of months I made some hard choices by having a huge sort out and reorganise things which in the process led to a clear out of some unused or unneeded models. Cutting back on the amount of projects has come as something of a relief and the cash raised was a welcome bonus as it has funded things which were needed (such as carrying cases, I am now swamped with foam) or new models which are not going to be sitting unbuilt or unused in boxes (such as the Daemons).

Departing this realm in the last couple of months…

Shadowsword conversion, Salamander, 5 Leman Russ, Destroyer Tank Hunter conversion, Hellhound, Valkyrie, Manticore, Marauder Destroyer (painful letting that go), 2 Ork Trukks, 4 Deffkoptas, Burna Boy unit, 2 Black Reach boyz mobs, 10 ‘man’ Stormboyz unit + character, 10 man Dark Angel Vet unit & 30 Dark Vengeance cultists.

Plus currently on ebay are two Planetstrike Bastions, a Dark Eldar Talos and a GK Dreadknight.

In all honesty the amount of room freed up is as welcome as the money raised.

Recalcitrant Daze:

Over the Xmas period the 300 post mark was passed on RD. When I started I never really envisioned having that many posts, let alone hitting it in 21 months. To my continued surprise Recalcitrant Daze is still gathering followers as well, it has now hit 240 followers.

Since starting Recalcitrant Daze I have been far more productive than I ever was before and this is in part thanks go to all those who follow the blog and take the time to comment. It is always appreciated.

The Coming Year:

I will keep this vague as no plan I put down will probably last till February. However these are the things I currently have mulling over that I hope will see the light of day in the coming 12 months (in no particular order):

Deamons – ‘Finish’ army off including Blight Drones and GUO.
Terrain – Woods require painting. Expand RoB gaming board with additional hill and river panels. Do some ruins and/or rocks.
Zone Mortalis – An all Terminator and Dread army for Zone Mortalis…with the new codex I will probably return to my early love, the Dark Angels.
Horus Heresy – Already picked up some infantry for this, the book and the setting are just too good not to do a (hopefully small-ish) Heresy force. Undecided on Legion.
Warhammer Quest – Some figures for the WHW meet ups.
Sedition Wars – I went in on the Kickstarter so I’ll have a parcel arrive soon…
Commissions – More Ork builds (after a short break).
3D Modelling/Printing etc – More projects in the pipeline, some already started.
Chaos Renegade Militia – It has been a long time since I did anything for what is meant to be my main army…
Orks – While I’m not doing an army I still have my own Orky constructions I want to do as pure modelling projects. This includes the Weirdboy tower already started and the PIP Deffstrike Launcha.
BoLS Articles – More to come including follow up Nurgle items and I am sure at some point more Ork ones.

However my priority for now is the Karrier. While the last week has been light on Karrier updates due to the amount of time I have been putting into the re-organising and sort out it remains my main focus model wise. Only once it is done will I get back onto the Blight Drone. Handily one of the boxes which arrived with all the foam should suit perfectly posting the Karrier to the States. It’s a big box.

For now I shall leave you with a sneak preview to show I am doing something on the Karrier...

  1. Exemplary work on the stairs for the Karrier, man - that just keeps getting better and better!

I really enjoy reading your blog and I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up doing for the heresy-era legion.

I hear ya on the clear out - I'm just getting ready to launch into one of those m'self. Things are getting a bit out of hand in the Closet of Doom...

    Keep up the great work!

    1. Clear outs may be painful in the short term but in the long term it is well worth it.

      Cheers.

  2. Clear outs seem to be a current trend - I've not been hobbying for a several months and I'm in the process of repairing, clearing out and upgrading my hobby shed in the hopes that it'll enthuse me that little bit more. I've also decidedthat this year I want to set myself tangible and realistic goals!

    1. Sounds like a good plan. I try and set realistic goals, but then get distracted or sidetracked and forget all about them...
