Necromunda - Adepta Sororitas Statue

A quick Statue I knocked up using the spare character I had from the Adepta Sororitas floaty pulpit. Stuck onto a 25mm base on top of a spare resin plinth.

Some skulls and other bits for detail and a quick paint job.

Weathering and Related Reference Pictures

So while on holiday I tend to take a lot of pictures. Amongst these are various reference pictures of weathering - along with anything else which might prove useful.

Last couple of years I have put some of these on Twitter and they proved quite popular.

To make things easier I thought I would do a blog covering it as well.

So here we go, I will group them together but some things are not easy to fit into a single category...I will continue to add to these (I need to find last years pictures for a start).

Rust.

Bunker Rebuild 5

Spare time is still short, what with work, going to a gig (Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, awesome) and going away for the weekend I've not been able to do much at all.

However here is a small update on the FW Bunkers.

The second one is close to being finished.

I used some offcut MDF to make a second base, the bunker had the same treatment as the first with filler being added then sand.

To make the top a bit more interesting I broke off one lug and bent the lifting bar.

As with the first bunker the inside got a scattering of personal gears.

Round the back I added some crates with a tarp over them. The tarp may get redone depending how it looks once it dries. I went for the quick and easy tarp approach as I wasn't that bothered about it looking brilliant.

Bunker Rebuild 4

Not been able to do any thing over the last couple of days but Saturday I was able to do a bit more on the bunker.

So I carved in some battle damage and added some details on the inside including a searchlight, a discarded broken knife, ammo boxes, spare weapons etc.

I still want to add a bit more to it before starting the second one.

Bunker Rebuild 3

Moulds done and first three casts are out.

After cleaning up the first one looks pretty good.

As you can make out there is one air bubble, on the comms unit which is a bit annoying but one air bubble on a model this size isn't too bad at all.

The roof lugs were drilled out and the lifting bars added.

Underneath you can see the stepped base I created:

Which fits into the MDF base which I cut the centre out ready to take the pillbox.

Once glued in position it got a layer of plaster and then sand was added.

Still left to do is fill the one air bubble and carve in some battle damage.

I have two more cast up but I can't do much with those until I get some more MDF.

Bunker Rebuild 2

It's been a while again...

Finally got back to working on a model. The bunker is pretty much done now with just the moulds to do and then the casting.

On the body of the bunker I added some armour plates to the front and a basic comms unit.

I added locating lugs on top of the walls so that the top wouldn't easily be knocked off during game play.

On the roof top I added new rivets and replaced the original end pieces on the lifting bars with new styrene tubes pieces.

Underneath it also got a couple of lights.

The mould for the body is currently under way, the two part mould for the roof will be done after this one as I am waiting for a little bit of GS to cure on the roof.

Bunker Rebuild 1

As mentioned in the last post I picked up a Forge World bunker not that long ago off eBay.

It's been out of production for a while which is a shame and it meant I had to pay though the nose for it now...

This is how it arrived:

Overall in decent condition. Some air bubbles from the casting and some rough areas which need cleaning up.

My plan is this, remove the sand bags, remove the bits and bobs on the inside, fill in any sculpted battle damage, fill in air bubbles, re-detail roof, interior and exterior and finally do a couple of moulds and cast enough to fill a battlefield.

Much resin dust was created in working on this bunker...

First off the sand bags were sawn off and the bits on the inside removed.

I then cut a 7mm deep groove around the base of the bunker, 3mm was then taken off the bottom of the bunker. The reason for this is to be able to sit the bunker into a shape cut into the MDF base I will be using. I can also do the same with a Realm of Battle board if I ever get round to doing a seige/trench gaming board.

Moving onto the dremel removed the rest of the sand bags remains and clean up a few other areas. Lots of sanding followed.

The ammo box was removed from the inside. Filling started with Milliput and lots more sanding.

Onto the roof the big rivets were removed and the lifting bars cut out and the top filled and sanded. Likewise all around the top milliput and sanding was used to smooth everything over and fill gaps/battle damage.

The reason I removed the bars was so that I can cast the roof then drill out the end pieces and put some rod down the hole. The big rivets will be replaced with some ball bearings put into drilled holes.

The underside of the roof was also cleaned up, filled and sanded.

Since then I have done more filling and sanding, including to the top of the bunker walls to give a better join between the roof and wall tops.

Next step will be to add some lugs to the roof so that it can locate into holes in the wall tops.

After that the detailing will be done. This (at the moment) includes:
Internal lights,
Armour plates at the front,
Comms unit,
Rear door.

Other things may get added as I think of them.

Been a while since I have done that sort of work, not entirely sure how it will turn out.

Bridges 1

So while I spent the weekend finishing off my desk and sorting/organising gear in the spare (aka Hobby) room I opened a box to find some bridges I last worked on five and a half years ago...though I did briefly have them out of their box when I was working on the Realm of Battle River Panels

As I had spent so long moving, repacking and so on I decided a minor distraction was called for to work on these.

Originally I planned to keep these very modular and not glue them together, doing that meant I could field on longer than normal - however I decided I was just never going to do that as my rivers only need the standard length of bridge.

My plan was also to come up with a joining strip to allow the bridges to be fielded as one extra wide bridge. But I've now decided I can't be arsed with all that. The bridges are wide enough for a super heavy already so it hardly matters.

As you can see in the pics back in July 2009 I added some lights to the bridges. I admit when I glued the bridges together yesterday I glued them together wrong...the lights were meant to be at opposite corners to each other...oops.

I added a new element to them in that at the bottom of each pole I mounted a ball bearing and inside each bracket I added a magnet.

I plan on adding a little more 40k feel to them by adding something to each corner of each bridge, options currently are:

They are now back in their box. Hopefully to see the light of day again sometime before 2020.

Back to the Junka...

Shipping Container 1

I am slowly getting over whatever crap I have had for the last 'x' weeks.

Hopefully this weekend I will actually be in a state of touching a model (shocking I know).

In the meantime I managed to spend a couple of hours doing some quick mock ups of something I have been looking to do for a while.

Mainly for use on a Zone Mortalis board I have wanted some large shipping containers to give some cover in large rooms big enough to block LOS easily.

So with some card and foamboard we have the mock up for the size:

Big enough for an Ogryn to stand up.

The standard size will be 150mm long.

From here I did some very quick 3D models to show how I plan to build this thing.

Basically the main body would be made up out of 'rings' which join up to make the full length, I want to do it this way to allow me to vary the length but also to keep costs down and make it easier to cast the pieces up. At each end would be an end plate incorporating a door.

Keep in mind no details have been done yet - this is just basic shapes, I'll be starting from a clean slate when I come to do the proper model.

The interior will be detailed up and the door will be removable (hinged possibly?) to give the option of having the container open.

This won't be a quick turnaround (due to not having the time to throw at it) and it won't be cheap to get it off the ground due to the 3D printing costs.

However if people are interested in maybe picking up some casts it is more likely to happen sooner rather than later.

If your interest has been peaked let me know below.
