Chaos Renegade Militia (aka Traitor Guard) - Breakdown & Thoughts.

Carrying on from the last post the Militia break down as...

The Grunts.

The infantry form up as four infantry squads, two special weapon squads, five heavy weapon squads and two command squads.

Generally I am happy with this, however I am thinking about forming the infantry into two larger squads of 20 instead of fielding them as four man squads. Of course at the moment this isn't a modelling issue as you simply stick the squads together before deployment. However (assuming you can still do this in the new codex) I will have to model the sergeants differently, so there is a senior sergeant in each squad.

A change I am definitely going to do is get rid of the melta guns. They have proved pointless in every game. That one shot short range fire just isn't worth the points, a flamer or plasma gun has proven far better in games thus far (esp against Nids).

I have been tempted many times to add more special weapon squads - snipers especially. But I think I will stick with the two I have. Both have proved excellent choices. Plasma and Demo Charges can put a dent in any opponent.

Other than adding some Vets and a Rough Rider squad the infantry will be changing or expanding. There is plenty to finish off and a lot of repair work to do.

Hooky the Scanner Guy

Along with the Infantry are the Chimeras. I will keep a couple, maybe three. One command plus two regular for the odd scenario where movement is important or for the Vet squads.

The rest can go through.

Command Chimera - Not getting shot of this guy...even if I never use it.

Soft & Heavy Metal.

Sentinels. Why do I have so many Sentinels?

Nobody needs 13 of them. So these will be trimmed back. I like the scout sentinels the most rather than the armoured versions. Being able to throw three heavy flamers into the fray can be fun. While I like the look of the Missile sentinels I don't think they are worth keeping, the Autocannon versions are able to throw out more. I'll leave the tanks and heavy weapon squads to take on enemy armour etc. So I think the Missile Launcher sentinels will go. The question is do I keep the Lascannon armoured sentinels? They do look nice...

Hellhounds will be trimmed down to one - the FW version which I love. The conversion I did will be turned back into a Chimera and sold. As Fast Attack options go a HH and some Sentinels have me covered, I'm not one for taking two HH in a squadron. Bit overkill.

To stay...

...to go...
Hellblades are safe - not going to be getting rid of those.

Same goes with the Atlas, Trojan, Sentinel Power Lifter & Hades Drill...never use them but they are ones I will not get rid of.

Conversion on the left, FW model on the right.

Isn't she cute?

Leman Russes - Other than getting shot of the unbuilt Russ these are staying as they are. Different load outs of hull and the selection of turrets gives me plenty of options.

Gun Turrets - Ditto, don't need any more and I'm happy with the four I have with the large selection of turrets I built for them.

Emplacements - While I am tempted to do a third I will stick with two (for now). Just need to finish them off...plus when the GW Hydra hits the shelves I'll be using those to get some Hydra emplacements to take care of any pesky aircraft knocking around.

Ronnie & Reggie - aka the Malcador tanks. I do like Malcadors. I don't know why. There is some work yet to do on these. I basically started to Militia them up and magnetise all of the weapons. However the track problems put me off finishing them. I really should get them done...

The Twins.
So that is pretty much that for now.

Just need to concentrate on getting some other things finished before the new Codex actually hits...

Or before I get distracted.

Oh, one more thing for the Militia will of course be the War Altar of Nurgle.

Something else to finish.

Chaos Renegade Militia (aka Traitor Guard) - Overview

So with the new Guard Codex round the corner I thought it was time to get out all of my Militia and take stock of what sort of state things were in.

It wasn't easy as things are spread out amongst many boxes in different areas, and I had to go back a couple of times after remembering there was something I had left behind.

So the overall shot:

And the breakdown is...

Three built Chimeras,
Two unbuilt Chimera hulls,
x2 Special Weapon Squads,
HQ Command Squad,
Marbo counts as,
Primaris Psyker,
Lord Commissar,
Scanner.

Four Infantry Squads + Commies,
x2 Missile Launcher Squads,
Mortar Squad,
x2 Lascannon Squads,
Platoon HQ Squad.

x2 Hellblades
x13 Sentinels,
x2 Hellhounds.

Hades Drill,
Sentinel Heavy Lifter,
Trojan,
Atlas,
x2 Earthshaker Emplacements,
x6 built Leman Russ,
x1 unbuilt Leman Russ,
x10 Russ turrets,
x2 Malcadors,
x4 Gun Turrets,

And not shown are...
Another couple unbuilt tanks (either Russ or Chimera, can't remember).
  Chaos Warhound...

Also in the works are a couple of Veteran Squads and a Rough Rider squads...but for these I am waiting for some new parts from Col Gravis who is in the process of doing some sculpts for me.

There is so much in those pictures that are WIP that it is embarrassing.

My plan is to thin the herd a bit. Most notably Sentinels as I did go a bit mad with those, I've never used more than six even in an Apoc game. Also the unbuilt vehicles can go, I never use all the ones I have already built. In fact another Chimera or two can go as it is very rare I use one.

Once the codex is out I'll start looking at possible re-organising things and start doing all the repairs that are required.

Realm of Battle Gaming Board 14

Thanks to a trip to Ikea earlier and an hour rearranging furniture and building tables I can now do this in the lounge...

So that is a 6x6 foot gaming table. So 36sq foot for Apocalypse games and with enough room to still get round the room and get through the door.

Once I had the chance to get the two extended hill panels out I was able to see I need to do a bit more drybrushing on them to better match the existing boards.

Ruins 3

Not been able to get much done model wise of late but the ruins have progressed a bit.

I added more rubble to the bases as well as add in some resin bits, basically bit of the ruins I had cut off.

I also attacked the walls with the dremel to add some more damage from small arms fire etc.

The insert above shows one of the resin off cuts I added in to the rubber. Not sure they worked as well as I hoped but oh well.

I am thinking of adding in some flooring to a few of the corner pieces including this one.

Managed to get them all undercoated today...

Even though I am going to (almost certainly) be adding some floors in I still wanted to get them undercoated at this point as it will be far easier to undercoat without the floors in.

Next up i'll look at adding some floors.

Recalcitrant Daze - Stuff

It’s been a while since I have done a non-specific rambling kind of post. For those who have been following RD for a while will remember (with dread probably) the monthly post I used to do before I decided I didn’t have enough to actually say to keep it going.

Not sure I have enough to say on this occasion either, but i’ve started now so we might as well all just grin and bear it and hope it is over quickly with as little bloodshed, tears and questioning our life decisions as possible.

So.

What is on the workbench at the moment?

Well we have the ruins getting done (tonight I did a bit of dremmelling) and the Giant Spined Beast/Jabberslythe (currently working on the base) plus of course the minor distraction of the wound counters.

Also on the edge needing attention are Deamons in the form of Scabby, Blight Drone, Plague Drones, Nurglings and Plaguebearers to finish off and the Robot Dreadball team to build and paint.

However on the horizon we have the new Imperial Guard Codex. Sometime soon I want to get all of my Militia out for review, I do want to have a slim down of them in preparation of a re-organising with the new codex. Will I get anything new? Hard to say at the moment but if this is anything to go by...
It's not Nagash level but it is still a tracked abortion of a vehicle.

...I won’t be getting anything.

Forge World...

At the end of this month is the FW Open Day, I am happy to say i’ll be there again. I’ve been to everyone so far and even with now having to pay £8 to attend it is still great value.

Expect lots of pictures of FW hitting RD on the 30th or the 1st of April.

And I couldn’t resist the Heresy Weekender again. Last year was good but this year should be better, rather than just me wandering around there will be three of us there combining the event with another meet up.

So naturally there will be plenty of pictures after that as well.

I am sure I was going to say more when I started this, but I've lost the will to carry on.

Wound / Hull Markers 1

Very quick update tonight.

For many years I have kept track of wounds (and now hull points) by using dice. However this tends to prove problematic at the best of times.

So I was looking to do some counters instead.

I picked up some skulls from Blood and Skull Industries. The plan was to use these as the markers with something on them to mark how many wounds or hull points were left.

This is idea 1 - inspired by old drawings showing Marines with studs to mark their long service:

So the studs mark the numbers of wounds/hull points left. I'm not sure though how well these stand out so I did a very quick paint job on one to see how well the studs show up...

Still undecided.

So I am going to do a second version with a roman numeral carved into the skull. I'll get that painted as well so I can compare the two ideas.

Terrain Time - Ruins 2 & Scatter Terrain 19

Things have been quiet but I have been (slowly) plugging away. As such here is an update (small it may be however).

Ruins 2

I cut down the bases of the ruins, added some foamboard to what would be the inside of the building then added a layer of sand.

I put together a couple of more pieces, rather than corners again I did a couple of straight walls.

Picture below was taken before I did some more GS work to the join.

Tonight I started to add the rubble. This is just the first pass, once the glue has dried i'll knock off the excess and add some more. I will also add in some resin pieces.

Scatter Terrain 19
I finished adding the stores to the last of the pallets:

The last few pallets used the new, larger crates:

Next up I will give these a coat of undercoat before I start adding the tarps. Progress will thus be dependant on the weather.

So don't expect progress on them any time in the near future.
