Nurgle Helbrute / Dreadnought 2

I should of known I had underestimated how long i'd spend on this - 'a few days' was never going to be right.

One of the main reasons is I am still waiting for Wayland to post out an order which includes the part I will be using as the head. Until I get the head I can't glue the two halves of the body together so I am limited to how much I can do to the main body and legs.

The other reason is having to keep stopping to wait for GS to cure...I hate GS.

However I have done some more.

Rough in some areas still, will be sorted later (also note size of pictures make things look rougher than they are...).

Rear:

He needs a head....

More to come in a day or two.

Nurgle Helbrute / Dreadnought 1

Here is the short term project I am doing as a break from the Karrier. Should only be a three or four days I think. Enough to come back to the Karrier refreshed and re-energised.

Basically I am taking a Dark Vengeance Helbrute and turning it to Papa Nurgle.

So tonights work...

On the rear I carved out part of the back before proceeding to fill it back in again (ignore the stray hair that got into the pictures).

As you can just make out I have also removed the exhausts. I'll be doing some new ones.

Now onto the front...

I removed most of the horns keeping one for that Nurgley feel. Lots more to do round there. Also planning a new head to go in there.

Working downwards I removed the old belly detail and added a shed load of GS. I also removed the tentacles and carved out the body before adding more GS.

Lots (and lots) to do yet.

Basically I am making it up as I go along so I can't really give many details. For example I don't know what I'll be doing with the weapons. Or legs. Or the rest of the rear. Or the top. Erm, so yeah.

Ork Kopta Karrier 14.1

Well, been a bit of an odd week in that I have done almost nothing.

Just been one of those weeks where I just couldn't get the motivation to work on anything.

However I forced myself to have a go, hence this update. But it is so small I didn't think it deserved the status of a proper update, hence being update 14.1 instead of 15.

Basically I added some more plating at the rear corners of the under deck structure. No detailing yet as that will be done in one go all round the under deck structure.

I made a start on the sponsons as well. Baneblade sponson at each end which will mount some Big Shootas while in the middle I am going for a big Zzap Cannon.

The Zzap Cannon will be looted Necorn guns...

They will be mounted recessed - think Malcador sponsons for what they will look like.

That is about it. No more rivets were added so no update to the running total either.

I am going to take a proper break for a few days from the Karrier. I need to cleanse the pallet by working on something completely different so I can come back to it more refreshed.

Expect an update on the new project in a day or two...

Recalcitrant Daze - Up to 17 Months.

Another month has passed, much like a like a cold chill running down your spine in tingling anticipation that something horrendous to about to happen.

I am writing this a couple of days early as I won’t be able to write it on the day it will go up, not really important but full disclosure and all that. Just in case something happens in the next two days that makes all this irrelevant and out of date (nuclear strike perhaps?).

So what has the past month been like on RD?

Well mainly Orks its in the form of the Kopta Karrier. By far the majority of my model time this month has been spent on that. It appears to be progressing nicely though there is still a hell of a lot left to do. I’m not even 50% into it yet…

What with my holiday there hasn’t been much else done this month, apart from getting a game in of 6th edition and putting together the Fighta Bomma for it (not finished mind). I hope to get the Dragons Teeth sorted next weekend (this weekend is busy) which will be one job ticked off the ‘to do’ list. I also hope to do a bit of work on the boards as hinted at recently (though my plans have already mutated and blossomed).

One thing that did arrive on the scene this month was Secret Weapon Miniatures releasing the Plasma Generator I designed…

And the page on their store for it can be found here and here.. I am working on my items for them so hopefully in the near future you’ll see more from me.

So we are into September, or Gerstmonath as the Anglo-Saxons used to call it. Doesn’t the year go quick? Unless you are in jail probably, or locked in someone’s cellar. I am assuming it drags a bit in those cases.

This month is of course Games Day UK. It will be the first for a while I won’t be going to and after the disappointment of last year I have to say I am happy to miss it. Though it is a shame I won’t get to see the FW design studio stands and I’ll miss they chance to pick up anything pre-release (but then I would have to enter the sales area to do that and frankly the ‘locked in someone’s cellar’ scenario is more appealing).

Talking of FW I am rather looking forward to the Horus Heresy series from them. So much so in fact that when this showed up yesterday…

…I decided to hold onto all the DA bits in the hope the FW rules for Heresy era Dark Angels live up to my hopes (i.e. better than the DA Codex, though I know that won’t be relevant for long…but I don’t have great expectations for the new DA book either).

Not sure what to do with the Chaos figures yet. I am going to ponder on it. The Dread may get Nurglised and sold on, or kept. I don’t really know.

Ork Kopta Karrier 14

Last update for a few days due to having a very full weekend.

In fact not a lot different but wanted to get something up rather than go four or five days between updates.

Firstly I carried on with the Rokkit area. Still need to do more to this, but I can't do that till the top deck plate is glued on - which won't be for a while.

The three 'pillars' will be mounts for magnets.

In the lift shaft area I did some more plating & added rivets to the one side. Also added a hatch (missed getting a pic of it). The new plates filled the gap that was there, so I know have a snug fit both sides of the lift mechanism wall.

At the front I set about plating up the corner areas and and the area where the deck met the under deck structure...

It is now quite awkward taking pictures of certain areas due to the size of the deck. So I had to grab multiple shots to show everything.

Other corner:

And the under deck joining area:

So a bit more done, the beast slowly grinds towards its finish.

And drum roll...

Ork Kopta Karrier 13

Well I started on the deck.

I cut out two panels of styrene which will be the top and bottom of the deck. The two largest pieces of styrene I have ever had to cut out (I think*)

The bottom one had some panel lines cut into it and was then glued down onto the upper structure. Getting it in the right position was a bugger.

I then used a shed load of 4mm H beams. This was to in the short term strengthen everything and will then give me the thickness of deck required.

The top plate is now being sorted to suit the Rokkit Launcha.

The cutout for the launcha still needs work due to it being a couple of mil off in the one direction.

I cut a section out at the rear of the rokkit launcha, this will remain removable so that the rokkit launcha can be removed if required.

No rivets added. Going to be a couple more days probably working on the deck area before I think about adding more rivets.

The top panel won't be glued in position for some time - I need to build the deck buildings first.

* In hindsight the piece of styrene I cut out for the Necron ship wing I built for the Poisoned Chalice Games Day board was probably bigger.
