Nurgle Vindicator

I started back up on the War Altar tonight, but nowhere near enough for an update. However being in a Nurgley frame of mind I thought i'd do a catch up post on a previous Nurgle vehicle.

So please say hello to my Nurgle Vindicator.

The idea is that the Vindi is Deamonically possessed, the inhabiting Deamon is 'fed' victims to power it/sustain it etc by having them pushed into the feeding pool at the back. Waste material is then discharged out the back...

The texture used the same paint stripper i used on the Nurgle Land Raider, though with a smooth/rippling texture rather than the rough texture achieved on the Land Raider.

I look at it now and I know I could of done it (most especially the GS flesh work) much better. There are still things about it I like, but I know it isn't as good as it could of been.

Some close up shots:

The 'Feeding Pool'

The inside face of the dozer blade - The dozer blade was kept removable.

The front of the tank which you can't see well with the dozer in place.

The 'discharge'...

The main reason I did the tank was just to see how it would turn out. I had a spare Vindi kit and a cheap Rhino knocking about so I went ahead with the build. Once done it went on eBay, god knows where it is now...

Realm of Battle Gaming Board 5

River panels have progressed somewhat.

Styrene has been added into the cut out river panels, the gaps packed out with styrene offcuts (barely got any left now of the small offcuts I keep, just in case) and milliput has been added to the banks. The banks still need a lot of work, both sanding, patching up etc as well as all the rocks added.

Putting the styrene base in wasn't a quick job, it involves cutting a single piece to fit into the panel, this also requires the carving away of just over a millimetre to allow the sheet to fit in.

Before the panels were glued in place I removed the majority of the remaining panel at each end of the river. A small amount was left for strength, this will be removed once everything else is done. The other panel (with the curvy river) was a bugger to do.

Anyway, I used a shedload of styrene offcuts, cut into even smaller pieces) to both fix the styrene in place and also roughly fill the gaps.

Almost a full pack of Milliput was then used to fill the banks in.

As you can see it is pretty rough, the whole lot will need sanding and some touching up. The plastic will also need more work. Also many rocks will be added along the river edge (like in the pools) which will hide much of the Milliput. The big important thing the milliput does is seal the gap - both making it water tight and adding a lot of strength.

And the two panels together...

And the 'mood' shots...

Unfortunately Games Day is approaching so the panels will be packed away tomorrow (once the Milliput has fully cured) so that I can get working on the War Altar.

Realm of Battle Gaming Board 4

Two posts in one day? Shocking...

I have cut out and inserted rocky banks into the straight river panel and gone round filling the gaps with GS

I also did some more work with the dremel shaping rocks, defining grooves between them and so on.

Can't do much more on them today as I need to wait for the GS to cure, later tonight I will clean the GS up a bit and add more GS where required.

As the pictures tonight won't look much different to know I thought I'd do an update.

Close up of the new inserted banks.

Still some work to do in cleaning up the rocks as well as the GS work still to be done as mentioned earlier.

Once all of that is sorted I will more onto added the styrene into the river itself. Not looking forward to that.

Recalcitrant Daze - Four Months and Counting & eBay Clearout

Four months in. The signs are the blog will not die away anytime soon...

So, looking back on last month’s ‘three months in post’ I see that the last month hasn’t quite panned out as I expected.

While the Nurgle fleet has been finished to its pre-Games Day point and I did start (just) working on the Realm of Battle gaming board again I didn’t touch the other two projects I expected to be working on – namely the War Altar and the first Mordheim warband.

So the next month should, should, see the War Altar back on the workbench as GD is now scarily close. If the War Altar is going to be a Golden Demon entry I need to get a move on. However before that I really want to get the two river panels at least built and sanded, painted might be pushing it but it depends how quick I can get them built.

Clearing Out Some Bits...

As a follow up to the previous post regarding having a clear out here are the auctions I managed to get up on eBay yesterday (43 of them, which was fun to do):

eBay Auctions

Loads of Marine/Dark Angel pieces including shoulder pads, weapons, body parts, Ravenwing biker parts, Terminator parts, Rogue Trader era Techmarines and a shed load more.

Realm of Battle Gaming Board 3

So a bit more work has been done, all of it on the second, bendy river panel. The river banks has had sections cut out of it and rocky banks inserted. All the inserted banks in this panel are cleaned up off cuts from the first panel. This has taken some time as these boards are pretty thick plastic.

And the inserted river banks pieces:

Still very WIP. A fair amount of carving and filling/sculpting with GS will be needed on the banks yet. I started carving with the dremel more rocks in the banks but these will also need a lot more work.

The other panel has not been touched yet but I have marked out more areas to be removed. The black shows where more material needs to be removed to widen the river on this panel (and similarly the first panel above will also need more material at the ends of the river removed). Some offcuts from the bendy river panel will be used on the banks here (bottom right area and as shown in the insert detail).

I did a quick check to make sure the rivers were ok for the two bridges I have, thankfully the width seems just about right. I could go slightly wider without a problem so if I get tempted I could always remove a bit more material without a problem.

I started on the bridges quite some time ago, but put them aside as I had no river to use with them. I won't be doing too much more than I have already done with them.

Using some CoD street lights, some old metal Sentinel Lascannon power packs and some styrene I knocked up some lighting for the bridges. Being out in the middle of nowhere I though it would be a good idea that these bridges had some lighting. Probably turned on by a sensor so that the lights only draw power when needed.

The only thing I may add to the bridges is a touch of 40k ness, such as Imperial bits on the ends like the pic below. Some battle damage may get added along with a few light touches. I may also add something under each end.

Some of the possible decorative pieces.
Good chance more will get done tomorrow.

Realm of Battle Gaming Board 2

Well, my first post in August. Doesn't time fly?

Been a bit distracted playing some actual games (actually won 4/4 surprisingly) hence the lack of updates. But tonight I finally took the plunge and started to convert the two additional flat RoB panels into river pieces. The pictures below are very WIP (I mean very).

Once finished the two panels should join up regardless which was round they are to each other. I haven't cut out the last inch or so at the end so that the panels have plenty of strength while I manhandle them, once I start adding the styrene base to the river i'll carve out the final areas.

The 'straight' river panel uses the RoB panel with the 'road' detailed on it. This allowed me to use the rocky surface to give me river banks which match the rock pools on the other RoB panels.

The 'curvy' river panel above uses the RoB panel with the two skull pits on. The curved path of the river allowed me to pick up the two skull pits so I could use the rocks there as the river bank.

As you can see the rest of the bank lacks the rocks. The plan is to use some of the cut out pieces from both panels to give me the banks I want, areas will be cut out of the bank and new rocky pieces inserted.

The offcuts which will be cut up as the new banks. The top and bottom pieces came from the first (the 'straight') panel while the second comes from the second panel, you can see the other half of the skull pits on the bottom and right edge of the piece.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get on with the banks.

Recalcitrant Daze - Having a clear out

Not a particulary interesting update I am afraid.

I am having something of a clear out, I have a load of Marine bits clogging up one of my bits boxes and also a few other models knocking around which can clear some room.

So to begin with there are three auctions on eBay if anyone is interested in picking up something cheap:

Sigvald the Magnificent - unbuilt Sigvald linky
Ezekiel - unpainted Ezekiel linky
Grot Mega Tank - unbuilt though missing Grot commander Mega Tank linky

All 99p starting bids.

Next week I will start listing all of the Marine bits that need to be cleared - I just can't face doing all of those auctions tonight.
