Deff Skwadron 2

The first Orky aircraft has progressed with more pieces added to the main body and almost all the rivets cut off and replaced.

Underneath I have fitted the threaded nut. GS and LGS has been applied down various joints which will get cleaned up once cured.

The nut is to allow me to fit a base like the ones I put together for my Hell Blades...

Waiting to be attached to the body are the following bits...they have all been distressed and re-riveted.

Wings in place the two options are looking like this:

Fighta Bomma with inset Attak Fighta.
The trickiest job will be magnetising (or in some other way make removeable) the wing weapons.

I'm going to be away for a few days so it'll be Sunday at the earliest I next get an update up. I will probably get this plane finished off before getting back to the Karrier.

Deff Skwadron 1

As promised an update...

Like many people I had to buy a couple of the new Ork Planes. The kits were too nice to turn down. In fact it would of been criminal not to, and I am of course a law abiding citizen.

However I wasn't going to pick up the White Dwarf for the rules slightly resenting the fact that was the only place they were plus I was already thinking of using them with the Forge World rules instead once updated for 6th edition. So I grabbed the new book as soon as it came out...

Before the book turned up I made a start on building the first plane, basically I got it to the point where I could then make it as any version (FW or GW). Now I have the book I am going to use the planes as either the Fighta Bommer or the Attak Fighta.

I pressed on with the build - I know it doesn't look much work but as with my other GW kits I have used in my army (i.e. Kans and Dreads) I have had to modify the parts to fit in - namely distressing all the edges, removing GW glyphs/dags/spikes etc and also replacing the majority of the rivets.

The rules for the Fighta Bommer and Attak Fighta combined with the bits you get in the excellent GW kit means with some magnets I can swap between the two options. Most likely I will use them both as Fighta Bommers in Apoc while in normal 40k i'll either use a single Fighta Bommer or use both as Attak Fightas (as you can buy them in squadrons).

So for example above you can see two of the pieces which will need magnetising - a simple plate for the Attak Fighta option and the gunner turret for the Fighta Bommer. I will need to magnetise the rokkits and bomms to swap them out.

Might do more on this tomorrow or a bit on the Karrier, like an Orky Lottery we just don't know what'll happen until something gets twatted.

Ork Kopta Karrier 8

So, I hit one of those fun points in a build. The point of no return. It is always enjoyable faced with a "I think I need to do 'x' now, but there is a chance if I do I may find later I can't do 'y' or 'z'."

The usual response is just to say 'screw it' and go ahead and face the consequences that arise later.

So that's what I did.

The interior is on the way to being finished. I needed to finalise the size and position of the lift so that I could transfer this size & position to the under deck structure (I showed the first panel of this in the last post) and later on onto the deck itself.

Here is the lift and the rear interior panel with the lifting rails (which the lift runs up and down on).

As you can see I used one of the doors previously built.

The panel was then glued into place inside the hull along with the lifting mechanism gubbins...the lift itself has pieces of the same size underneath it so that is will sit on top of the mechanisms shown. Theory being that the lift is the same thickness as the deck, so when the mechanism gubbins pieces reach the top of the rails the top of the lift plate will be flush with the top of the decking.

The door leads to the engine room.

Once that panel was fixed in place I went ahead and detailed up the sides and floors of the interior.

The floor had no rivets added where the lift will eventually sit as you won't be able to see them, however I riveted up elsewhere, even where I thought the chances are you won't be able to see. Just in case.

Another one of the doors gives access to the upper levels.

And with the lift in position (not glued yet):

At the same time as doing this (well technically before I did that, but it was all part of the same thing) I did more to the under deck structure. I cut a top panel out, cut it into two and glued the rear part in place. Spacers between the two pieces gave me the height I wanted. I cut the lift hole out but I knew at the time much would later be covered as I finalised details regarding the lift.

The hole at the front will mount the turret (WIP) below. The top panel was cut in two to allow me to more easily modify the whole thing later on when I have the Rokkit Launcha built. The front obviously needs a lot more work yet.

In place you can see down the lift shaft:

The detailed up interior is visible still, those half hidden details like the doors I think add a lot of character to the whole thing. Though it will be a bugger to paint...

I also started to make a second deck using the last piece of foamboard I have. I wanted to re do it with the new positions for the lift shaft and also to help work out the rokkit launcha position and the forward structure round the turret.

Last but not least I said I would show the track this beast will be running on.

As mentioned I got these from Blood and Skulls Industry. They have a number of different track designs but I went with the Krusher pattern as it seemed very Orky.

Yep, it's that time again.

The latest additions to Da Rivet Off are:

Lift & Rear Panel - 121
Interior Walls & Floor - 159
(Note, the two doors used where not counted as they were included in a previous post)

And that is all for now.

Probably an update tomorrow, but on something else.

Ork Kopta Karrier 7

Well things have moved slowly over the last couple of evenings, due to a mixture of it being too hot and waiting for some new tracks to arrive.

Track has now arrived so I have got working again.

The outer track panels are no glued into place (had to make another rectification which took up a couple of hours...). The top panels are also glued into place after most of the detail was removed as the panels will be covered or hidden eventually.

I've cut out the bottom piece for the next level, the 'under deck structure'. The lift will go in the hole, though not all of the hole will be lift.

I've also put together the new road wheels which will be used in the extension, I carved up some of the panels to show them off a bit more.

As someone is bound to ask the road wheels are from Blood and Skulls Industry as is the track I have for them. First time I have used them so I am looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

In the next post i'll show the actual track once I have cleaned them up and start adding it to the track unit.

No new rivets added this time...

...however there will be some in the next post I am sure.

Gun Emplacement Mk.II 8 & Scatter Terrain 10

A brief hiatus from the Karrier to work on a couple of my own ongoing projects.

Gun Emplacement Mk. II 8

After many hours sanding, filling, spraying, filling, sanding etc the modified gun mounting plate was ready for casting.

I removed the plate I had previously added to the gun mounting plate so that the area where the crew raise and lower the gun was free of trip hazards (health & safety...), the hole underneath along with the circular hole at the rear had then to be filled and sanded flat (too ages and many goings over). The modified Basilisk plate was then added before going round filling in, sanding and so on...

Anyway. I did a mould and knocked out some casts...

The first perfect cast.

As you can see two of the three had an imperfection on the edge.
Bloody annoying.

I drilled out the two holes where the Earthshaker pieces fit into and assembled the Earthshaker. Blu-tac only for now:

And then in the fully raised position...

'Bang Bang' said Militiaman Bob as he smugly looked over the wall.

Sort of tempted to actually paint it...long shot but it may happen.

Next up...

Scatter Terrain 10

The Dragons Toof got a mould done and I knocked a few casts out.

I did a few in plaster and a few in resin to see the difference in them.

Rather than just take some pictures of some casts I based four of them (two plaster and two resin) and added some sand. Keep in mind this was a very quick and rough basing job, just wanted to see how the parts looked in context.

Militiaman Bob gets around.

Undercoated you can't tell the difference between the two materials.

Shock, horror I actually painted them - again just a quick and rough job.

I went with a brass top plate just to highlight them, I doubt I would go with brass eventually.

The plan is to do a few casts in resin incorporating rebar, i'll carve them up and add damage etc before using them as master for a set of moulds.

Quite pleased how they turned out, was a bit worried if the skulls would show up well enough originally but they show up easily without being too in your face.

Ork Kopta Karrier 6 - The Rivet Off Begins.

The outer track panels are coming together now. Limited how much I can do with them till the track pieces arrive and I can assemble the track units to the hull.

Bolt heads to attach the lower panels.

And now...

So the competition is now closed to entrants, which means I can put the list of entrants up with their guesses and of course start the running total.

First up the entrants...

And now the running total...

As I have been building the Karrier I have been keeping track of the number of rivets I add. Here are the rivet groups:

AA Gun 1 - 157
AA Gun 2 - 160
Doors - 66
Hull Bottom - 376
20mm Side Extension - 34
Front Ext. & Drivers Cab - 156
Outer Track Panels - 54

So yeah, 1003...
